Additional Information on Candida Symptoms

A vaginal yeast infection can be different from person to person or in each instance where you have one, because yeast is a fungus. You may need different treatments based on the different reasons for the infection occurring in the first place, but each infection will have some basic similarities. You could cause more trouble than help if you apply the wrong treatment for your problem, so it is important to know which is which. Distinguishing between different yeast infections can be difficult as the characteristics of each type are not necessarily unique.

Fungi that can be present in normal human skin are known as yeast or candida. Yeast can commonly grow in moist environments, such as the mouth, and more often the vagina for women. Yeast infections are a common and treatable problem. The vagina is an area of the body that does commonly carry yeast. Half of the female population is thought to have some yeast in the area.

Why do infections occur if this is a normal occurrence? If the yeast in the area becomes excessive, an infection can develop, but this is just one of multiple reasons. The same area having new yeast introduced to it, is another reason.

Hygiene sprays – even those formulated for the purpose, and perfume, diabetes, and oral contraceptives can all be additional culprits for a developing yeast infection.

You may notice some changes in your sensitive areas that indicate you have a yeast infection. Some symptoms of other types of infections may mimic the symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection, as was explained earlier in this article.

If you are experiencing itchiness in that area, this is usually the first sign of a yeast infection. However, an itch as a primary indicator is not enough to suggest a yeast infection, as it can also be a symptom of something else. You can more closely identify your problem as a yeast infection if you have the itchiness combined with any of the following symptoms in combination. Soreness and/or burning in the area are also indicators. If you experience pain during sexual intercourse, this is another indicator.

When you urinate, you may also have some pain. Pain is a symptom that you should never take lightly, so it is probably a good idea to seek nutritional attention.

Another good indicator is the presence of abnormal or additional vaginal discharge. It is important to note that women suffering with yeast infections, however, do not always experience vaginal discharge. That is not to say that vaginal discharge is not an important symptom to be aware of. Usually white in color and sometimes with no discernible odor, the discharge may go unnoticed. Or it could resemble cottage cheese in both appearance and texture. Your vulva area may also experience some pain.

Natural remedies are the best way to eliminate a yeast infection. Some women experience recurring yeast infections over time, though, and it can become chronic. Recurring yeast infections are a problem for about 5% of women. Medical conditions that are not initially identified can be the underlying cause for chronic recurrence of yeast infections.

To determine your next step you should closely monitor your yeast infection occurrence, symptoms, and any other health problems you may experience. It is important to monitor your health on the whole.
