What is a Systemic Yeast Infection?

A systemic yeast infection can happen to anyone at any age. Yeast infections are caused by the fungus, Candida, which is a normally occurring fungus in the body. When yeast grows unabated or the body can no longer fight the Candida, is when problems occur. Systemic yeast infections occur when the yeast manages to get into the bloodstream and affects the whole body. A systemic yeast infection is very hard to diagnose and treat since it does affect many different portions of the body.

How does a Systemic Yeast Infection differ from a regular yeast infection?

There are 3 common forms of yeast or Candidiasis. Depending on the type of yeast will ultimately affect how long it will take to get rid of the yeast infection. They are as follows:

1. Yeast infections of the vagina, mouth (thrush) or Balanitis. These are the most common forms of yeast infections. Most women will be affected by a yeast infection and it is common for newborns to have “thrush” or a yeast infection in their mouths.

2. A reoccurring yeast infection. This will be a yeast infection, either vaginal or oral, which constantly comes back no matter the type of treatment used. This usually signals an issue with the immune system.

3. Systemic yeast infections are by far the worst and the hardest to get rid of. They are commonly referred to as “opportunistic” yeast infections because once it gets into the bloodstream it can cause all types of problems. And unfortunately, every case is different so it may affect a persons gastrointestinal tract or it may affect their respiratory system. It just depends on where it travels to and starts to thrive.

Everyone has yeast. It’s just a fact of life. Usually it takes root in warm spots in the body which is why it’s prevalent in the mouth, the intestinal tract and the vagina. When you have a systemic yeast infection is when your immune system is no longer able to fight this naturally occurring fungus. A systemic yeast infection usually happens when there is an imbalance in chemicals in the intestinal tract or because the immune system is compromised in some way.

If a systemic yeast infection does happen then it can infect all or part of the body. This includes, the skin, the liver, the major organs like the heart and lungs, the eyes and just about anywhere blood flows to. This type of infection can cause an untold amount of pain and can affect how you live your day to day life.

What are the normal causes of a systemic yeast infection?

There are several causes for a systemic yeast infection, the most common of course being a weak and ineffective immune system. Diet and overall health can also affect how the body responds to a normal yeast infection. Other factors can include what type of clothing you wear, if you take birth control pills, are on antibiotics, your daily amount of stress, and pregnancy. These can all play a part in how your body responds to a yeast infection.

It was usual to just treat the outside effects of a yeast infection without looking for an underlying problem, but not anymore. Now because of the way we live our lives, alternative health professionals understand that there may be a deeper root problem which causes a yeast infection to occur and could lead to more problems down the road. And sometimes, the “cure” can also be a problem, which is why it is good to look at homeopathic ways to get rid of yeast infections.

Homeopathic alternatives to treating yeast infections are not the same as just changing your diet. You should eliminate those items which could trigger a yeast infection such as dairy, refined sugars and starches, some fruits, soy based products and anything else that could cause your system to start behaving weirdly. Doing this will only help your cause but it will not be the cure. The reasons you would want to eliminate some of these items from your diet is that they can help the yeast or Candidiasis thrive. While eliminating some foods from your diet is reasonable, you also need to add other “healthier” foods to balance out your system. These include more green leafy vegetables, yogurt, and good-for-you fats like avocado and coconut oils.

Changes in diet and lifestyle can make huge differences in how your body fights a systemic yeast infection. You also need to consider homeopathic treatments which include full system body flushes to get all the toxins out. Your treatment should not just “treat” the symptoms, it should help you cure the underlying issue for a systemic yeast infection and help you live a much fuller and healthier life.
